Australia Welcomes Ceasefire Between Pakistan and India

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs has announced in a statement that Penny Wong, the country’s Foreign Minister, in a phone call with Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, welcomed the ceasefire between New Delhi and Islamabad.
During the conversation, Ms. Wong expressed her condolences over the loss of innocent lives in the recent crisis and expressed hope that the ceasefire would pave the way for lasting peace between the two neighboring countries.
According to Pakistani media reports, the Australian Foreign Minister praised Pakistan’s restraint and stated that the country had exercised its legitimate right to self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
The official statement from the Australian Foreign Ministry added that Pakistan had acted responsibly in its efforts to maintain regional peace and security.
